General description
It’s hard to imagine Western Mongolia without its snowcapped mountains same as Kazakh falconers without their eagles.
Bayan-Ulgii is the westernmost province of Mongolia which borders both with Russia and China. Majority of the people who live there, are Kazakh people
with Turkish origin who practices Islamic and speak their native language. Nomadic as Mongolians,
Kazakh people also own livestock and migrate several times a year. During this trip you will encounter Kazakh culture,
people, their history, falconers and obviously see the highest points of Mongolia,
Altai Tavan Bogd Summits.

14 DAY tour ITINERARY to ALTAI TAVAN BOGD
Day 1. Arrival at Ulaanbaatar and visit around city
• Arrival at the airport, meeting with our driver. Transfer to your hotel or hostel, settling in, and rest.
• Appointment at 12 o'clock at your accommodation with your guide.
• Let's immerse ourselves in the heart of the Mongolian history, in the wonderful National History Museum. Three floors of a rich, glorious, violent and noble past, from prehistory to Soviet period, including the creation of the great Mongolian Empire by Genghis Khan.
• Walk in the centre of Ulaanbaatar. Discovery of Gengis Khan Square and the House of Parliament.
• At 6pm, Mongolian traditional show at Tumen Ekh : folkloric dances, contortion, and of course khoomi, the overtone singing.
• Stay overnight: hostel or hotel(L+D)
Day 2. On the way to Semi-Gobi
Ulaanbaatar - Khogno Khaan Natural Reserve 280km
• We arrive at the splendid rocky formations of Khogno Khan. Discovery of the park: semidesert steppes, taiga, stunning rocky formations, 80-kilometres (49,71 miles) long sand dunes, are characteristic of this arid area nicknamed "Semi-Gobi".
• Hike until Erdene Khambiin Monastery. "Monk Erdene's Monastery" dates from 17th century and was built in the mountain. Zanabazar built it in honour of his teacher, monk Erdene.
• Visit of the sand dunes of Elsen Tasarkhai.
• Camel ride to sand dunes

Day 3. Hot springs in Tsenkher
Khogno Khaan Natural Reserve–via Kharkhorin village - Tsenkher hot springs 250km
• Visit Erdene Zuu monastery and discover Ancient Capital City
• Arrival at Tsenkher hot springs, where you can lounge in the pools of hot water of the camp.
• Stay overnight: “AltanNutag” tourist camp(B+L+D)
Day 4. Terhiin Tsagaan Lake and Khorgo Volcano mountain
Tsenkher hot spring - Terhiin Tsagaan Lake 260km
• Road to Khorgo – Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur Natural Park that is located 2060 metres (1,28 mile) above the sea level. This lake, called "the great white lake", and its whole volcanic surroundings, are the emblematic area of the province of Arkhangai. The waters of the lake are full of fish and it's possible to fish if you want to.
• Hiking along the banks of the lake. We go towards Southeast where Khorgo Volcano reaches its highest point at 2240 metres (1,39 mile). (Easy) ascent of the volcano. From the top, we enjoy a splendid view on the lake and the surroundings hills. Nearby the volcano, stunning lava flows form an original landscape never seen up to now.
• Horse trek around terkhiin white area
• Stay overnight: nomadic family’s ger or tourist ger camp. (B+L+D)
Day 5. Telmen Lake
Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake – Telmen Lake 390km
• Telmen Lake which is a saltwater lake in Zavkhan Mongolia. There are three islands in the lake, where many migratory birds gather.
• Stay overnight: tent camping(B+L+D)
Day 6. Khyargas Lake
Telmen Lake – Khyargas Lake 380km
• The lake is fed by the Zavkhan gol river and other smaller Rivers through Airag, which is a nearby located smaller fresh-water lake. The lake and its surrounding area were proclaimed a National Park and established in 2000. The basic attraction of the lake is Khetsuu Khad (Hard Rock),an enormous rock sticking out of the water that attracts migratory cormorant birds.
• Stay overnight: tourist ger camp or tent camping(B+L+D)
Day 7. Khovd Village and Ulgii Town
Khyargas Lake-Via Khovd Village-Ulgii Town 320km
• Ulgii is the capital of the province of Bayan Ulgii, 1636 kilometres (1016,56 miles) from Ulan Bator and 1710 metres (1,06 mile) above the sea level. Main people living in Olgii are Kazakhs, and its atmosphere is very influenced by Central Asia : there are many signs written in Arabic and many mosques.

Day 8. Let's start our trek in Altai Tavan Bogd!
Khovd village – via UlgiiTown – Tsagaan river 290km
• Visit of the site of Tsagaan salaa. Over 15 kilometres (9,32 miles), you can see 10000 rocky paintings on the rocks scattered on the Southern part of the white river, "Tsagaan Gol".
• We start hiking in a valley full of edelweisses and wild flowers where many Kazakhs nomads have set up their camp. We pass close to an old Kazakh cemetery where we find sculptures with human shapes. The view on the Tavan Bogd Mounts and their snowy peaks is spectacular. We cross the Tsagaan River to reach our camp facing the Tavan Bogd (5 saints). The location is spectacular and the snow-covered peaks around us are a great source of inspiration.
• Stay overnight: Nomadic family’s ger and tent camping(B+L+D)
Day 9-10. Glacier and ascent of the Malchin
Tsagaan river - Potanine glacier
• We leave the camp to reach the Potanine glacier, 3500 metres (2,17 miles) above the sea level in the deep heart of the park. We set up our camp and acclimatize.
Day 10.
• If you want, We stay in the same camp to do during the day the ascent of the summit of Malchin. We cross bogs to get closer to the base of the mountain. We will have a beautiful view on the valley and the snow-covered Tavan Bogd and Potanine glacier. We start the ascent of Malchin, which lasts about 4 hours (+2 to go down). We must be vigilant because the stones are likely to move when we walk and it is not uncommon that they slide down the slope. Snow possibility. From the top, we have a view on neighbouring Russia and on China. We will also enjoy the breathtaking view on the deep blue mountain lakes. The ascent is facultative.
• If you don’t want, we can just trek around area.
• Stay overnight: tent camping(B+L+D)
Day 11. Trek back to Tsagaan Gol- White River
• After easy morning we will pack up our staff on the camel back and slowly head back trekking to Tsagaan Gol. Locals named this glacier river as White River due its milky white color.
• Stay overnight with local nomadic family (B+L+D)
Day 12. Khurgan and Khoton Lake
Altai Tavan Bogd National Park – KhurganKhoton lakes 150km
• After breakfast we continue our driving to Khurgan and Khoton Lakes. These lakes are another famous site of the park which has outstanding scenery of forested walls of mountains along with snowcapped mounts. Shores of the lakes are main summer camp of local families. Both of lakes are also home of many migratory birds and fish species too.
• Explore the area on foot. Swimming opportunities. Our campsite will only few kilometers away from Chinese border.
• Stay overnight: nomadic family ger or tents(B+L+D)
Day 13. Experience with a Falconer
KhurganKhoton Lakes – SagsaiValley 210km
• Driving to Sagsai Valley
• Today will be fully dedicated for learning about an old tradition of hunting with an eagle. You will opportunity to talk with the falconer and ask his experience of hunting and hear many interesting stories. If the eagle is in good mood, master can show you some of his training methods too.
• Except learning about Eagle training, you can also be the part of their daily life and help them around if you wish.
• Overnight at Eagle hunter’s family (B+L+D)
Day 14. Return flight to Ulaanbaatar
Ulgii - Ulaanbaatar
• We embark on our return flight Ulan Bator.
• Arrival in town and transfer to your hotel or hostel where you can rest a few moments.
• Rest of the day free. With our guide, you can go and shop in the centre of the city(B+L)

Please do not hesitate to contact me immediately. I advise a lot. Please prepare suitable clothing to run by bicycle. There is a temperature difference between day and night, so please bring more clothing change. Because rainy day is also assumed, please bring clothes that are difficult to get wet. Flashlights and lights are of course necessities.
